College Overview
The College of Civil Engineering at Guizhou University includes the Departments of Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Road and Bridge-Tunnel Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, Municipal and Building Environment Engineering, Mechanics, and the Experimental Center. Our college is staffed by 108 full-time members, including 11 full-time administrative personnel and 97 full-time faculty members, among them 46 individuals own associate professor or higher titles and 44 individuals own doctoral degrees. We are proud to have one academician, one member of the New Century Talent Program from the Ministry of Education, one top-tier innovative talent in Guizhou Province, three innovative talents in Guizhou Province, one excellent science and technology individual in Guizhou Province, one Innovation Leading role model in Science and Technology in Guizhou Province, an outstanding young science and technology talent recipient in Guizhou Province, a recipient of the Youth May Fourth Medal from Guizhou province, a recipient of Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award, five top-discipline special zone talents, as well as a recipient of Xu Zhiliang Mechanics Excellent Teacher Award.
Our college offers doctoral programs in the primary discipline of Civil Engineering, with three secondary disciplines: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Bridge and Tunnel Engineering. Our college also offer master's programs in the primary discipline of Civil Engineering, with five secondary disciplines: Geotechnical Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, Structural Engineering, Municipal Engineering, and Building Environment and Energy Engineering. The master's programs in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering cover four secondary disciplines: Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Municipal Engineering, and Artificial Environment Engineering. There are undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering (with directions in Construction Engineering, Road Engineering, Foundation and Geotechnical Engineering, and Bridge and Tunnel Engineering), Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering, and Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering. In 2020, Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering and Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering were selected as provincial first-class undergraduate programs, and in 2021, Civil Engineering was selected as a national first-class undergraduate program, establishing a talent training system for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
In the past three years, we have led more than 50 national scientific projects including the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) and provincial projects like the Guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Support Program, and nearly 100 engineering research projects. The approval rate for new doctoral projects funded by the NSFC has reached 80%. Special-post talents have an average of 1.6 NSFC projects per person, with 60% hosting two NSFC projects at the same time. The total research funding has exceeded 20 million yuan, and authorized over 30 national patents and published more than 200 SCI-indexed papers. The students guided by Faculty members have received over 70 national and provincial awards in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, as well as disciplinary competitions such as Challenge Cup, Internet+, university structural design competitions, and mechanics competitions.
Our experimental center includes laboratories for mechanics, hydraulics, construction materials, geotechnics, building structures, roads and bridges, and building environments, has a total area approximate 17,000 m2, with 7,700 m2 allocated to civil engineering laboratories. The center is equipped with 747 sets of instruments and equipment, valued at 23.2398 million yuan.
